This round neck strap is used for four reasons:

1. When training young horses, to secure the bareback pad or saddle.
2. When training young horses, to provide the rider with a stable point for balance or hand position.
3. For any rider to improve balance in their posture and seat.
4. To support your aids for stopping and steering with little or no bit pressure.

With young horses, there is a greater risk that the bareback pad or saddle will slip after girthing. Young horses sometimes puff out their bellies in response to the pressure of the girth. If your horse then starts to move, the girth can become slightly looser, which may cause the saddle to shift.

The balance strap prevents the bareback pad or saddle from sliding backward and limits the possibility of it slipping to the side. Furthermore, the balance strap catches the saddle. This can prevent major, unintended panic reactions in your horse.
